Olivet Lions Club

2016 in Review

The Lions Club is a group of individuals who share the same interest in serving their community. The Lions organization is not only in local communities but is an international organization. The Olivet Lions club community service can be seen in many various projects.

The club built three ramps in the Olivet community in 2016. The club donated money to Olivet Schools toward new infield tents, FFA projects and scholarships for graduating seniors. Money was donated to students from various high schools for the national band tour.  The Lions club also supports the local food bank by holding the Cram the Cart event once a year. These are only a few examples of what the Lions Club in Olivet does for the community.

In July the International Lions Club sent two students to Olivet, one from Finland and one from Germany.  The students were housed in Olivet by Lions members.  These students both shared information about the cultures of their countries with the Olivet Lions. The Olivet Lions Club provided funds for the students to tour the Upper Peninsula so that they could give a report about Michigan back in their countries.  (Anyone interested in hosting an international student for two weeks this summer please contact; Deb Maxwell at 269-749-8570).

The club has several fund raisers throughout the year to collect the funds that make these various service projects possible. One of the best known fund raiser is the annual car show that happens during Olivet’s Fireman’s Festival in July. There are many other events that are great fun for the community. There was the Olivet Lion’s Relay in the spring which hosts several area high schools for a track event.  There were the Lion’s yard sale, casino trips, squirrel hunt and the Halloween pancake breakfast. The Club also rents tents, tables and chairs to the community.

The Olivet Lions Club is a great organization with dedicated members.  We would love to have some new members to continue the great works of the Lions Club. We look forward to serving our community in 2017 and hope to see some new faces to continue these great projects.
