December, We will resume with vision screenings. Tuesday the 9th at Ramirez Elemnetary and the 10th at Early Childhood Academy. We start at 8 am. Alto Bonito did their own screening already. On Thursday the 11th we will have our Christmas Party featuring a dinner and a White Elephant gift exchange game. The gift should be unisex with a limit of $20.
We finally completed vision screenings at the schools. We sreened a total of 808 students of which 234 were recommended. That's 28.9% of those screened. That is a high percentage. It is good that parents have athis opportunity to get their children checked by a professional and hopefully address the vision issues that hinder student performance.
We will be donationg to Toys for Tots and Santa for Seniors. If you are interested in helping let us know. Donate a $5 unwrapped gift for either a child or a senior or for both. Your donation is greatly appreciated. THANK YOU! for your donations. We took over 10 gifts for children and over 20 for the seniors at the nursing home...Awesome work Lions. Santa for Seniors gifts were delivered on Sunday 12/14/25, to Starr County Nursing and Transitional Care Facility. Toys for Tots gifts were delivered to ICS on Monday 12/15/25. Thanks again.
We added 5 new members on December 11. So as of 12/15/2025 we are 33 Lions strong.
I spoke to PDG Lion Montelongo, regarding getting a spot vision camera for our club on Friday the 12th. He said that the district will be getting 1-2 cameras and that he will push so we can get one that will be here and maybe that way we can also screen Roma schools.
Recycled glasses will be taken to COSTCO to donate soon. I just found out that Thurmond Eye Associates office in Rio will be closing this Friday 12/19/25. So, we are losing a donation drop off station for recycled glasses.

We started our annual school vision screening at the RGGISD elementaries on the 6th of October and should be done by the 21st.(Screening was halted on Friday due to technical difficulties. We will continue once the issue is resolved)
On Saturday, October the 11 we participated in the 4th Annual Alzheimer's Awareness Walk. We posted information about Alzheimer's at our booth. We donated a $40.00 gift card to the event. We also passed out positive quotes and lollipops to all that stopped by our booth. Some of the members also participated in the walk.
On Tuesday, October 14 We had a booth at the Starr County Nursing and Transitional Care Fall Festival with games and prizes for residents and visitors. It was a fun time! (see in Pics to See)
Recycled eyeglasses were collected on Monday,10/20/25. 185 pairs were donated. Thanks to Starr Vision, Optica Bravo, and Thurmond Eye Associates. From Summer to now we have collected 351 pairs of glasses.
We had our monthly meeting 10/28/2025. We had a guest speaker from the Alzheimer's Association. The speaker was very informative. Then some members brought some goodies and we shared a nice meal. All in all, it as an informative, productive and fun meeting.

On September the 6th we participated in Market Days with a Bake Sale. We did good raising $213.75. Thanks to all who helped and donated goodies.
This Month we Lost a long time member, Lion Olga Saenz. The Club presented a flower arrangement to the family and attended her prayer service to pay our respects on Friday the 19th. May she rest in peace.
On the 23rd we had our monthly meeting and Lion Ruben Saenz spoke to the club about how he became a Lion and how after 70 years as a member he is still dedicated to the Lions. Thank you Lion Ruben for that most motivational talk.
We filed the 990N e-card already, two eye exams were paid for, we already change to paperless bank statements.

We will be showing our support for the fight against Alzheimer's on October at the Basilio Villarreal Park. More details will be sent through text.
Also, on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 we will participate in a Fall Festival at the Starr County Nursing and Transitional Care Facitliy. We will have a booth with a game for the residents and guests to play for fun and prizes. Members are encourage to come by and help. Wear your vest.
We had our first meeting on August 26th. We had a great turn out, 17 members were present.
We are in the process of doing our first fund raiser during Market Days with a bake sale.
During the summer we sent a donation to the Kerr County flood victims and donated over 100 pairs of recycled glasses.
