A.J. Robinson Foundation

Lions District 4-C6 Mobile Health Screening Unit

The A.J. Robinson Mobile Screening Unit is a mobile trailer outfitted for providing health screenings that highlight risks for blindness or vision problems. The trailer is also outfitted to be used for hearing screenings. The range of screenings that can be provided depends on the skills of the volunteers that staff it, but it is possible to measure height, weight, blood pressure, resting respiratory rate, and blood sugar. Equipment on board can be used to screen visual acuity, color perception, and hearing. No diagnostic procedures are performed, but patients do leave with a record of the findings that they can bring to their doctor for followup.

     Backpacks for Kids

This is a local Lions Club project to provide at no charge, backpacks full of school supplies for underpriviledged children within the South County area.

With the assistance of several other Lions Clubs, Wal-Mart, and friends and family, San Martin Lions filled backpacks with school supplies for underprivileged children.  These new backpacks went to homeless children and children whose families could not afford new school supplies.

Each year, over 70 Lions volunteers from different clubs worked for an hour gathering school supplies and preparing backpacks. These backpacks are distributed to many locations, but San Martin Lions distribute their 128 backpacks to the Rebekah Children's Shelter and other local students in need. This kind of service impacts our communities in the spirit of Lions Clubs all over the world; to inspire youth, to assist those in need, and to touch the lives of other human beings. There is nothing more important than being able to give the hope to the youth of our community.
