Lion Adam DeVore (2017)

Being part of Lions means participating in a global organization with deep local roots and an established history of philanthropy and service. Lionism is all about community involvement, assisting the less fortunate in times of need, and mentoring the youth to inclucate a sense of civic responsibility and develop an appreciation for community service

Lion Lisa DeVore (2017)

I’ve always been the person who wants everyone else to open their gifts before me at Christmas.  And I’ve always embraced going out of my way to find special things to do for people – whether it was taking the time to hand sew my daughter’s Halloween costumes, or creating gifts that are tailored to an individual’s favorite hobby or pastime.  Being a Lion is a natural extension of my love for helping people and animals.   Serving others gives me a sense of pride and accomplishment and it warms my heart to be able to make someone’s day.

Lion Mike Villaggio (2015)

Lionism to me is helping our community and beyond to a better future through Lions' charity and philanthropic fundraiser events. We never charge a fee for our time, travel, or service.

Lion Ray Staton (2012)

The Williamsbuerg Host Lions Club is a nice club to join becuase you do a lot for the community and you help out a lot of people.  We also get some good members into the club who make it even more worthwhile to come and participate. The more members we get in, the more fun we have and the more we are able to enjoy helping the community.

Lion Gregory Hodge (1967)

What does Lionism mean to me? Everything. I wouldn't have hung around all these years if I didn't love it. I think it's great, and I think every young man should get in and stay until he gets old like I am. I got in when I was young and have valued the experience.

Lion Clyde Masengale (1973)

It is a privilege being a small part of a world-wide, well-respected organization that provides moral and financial support to those in need. To me, Lionism means belonging to a local club and working with club members on many different projects in order to collect funds to donate to other organizations and individuals in need.  It provides a good feeling to be able to help those in need in the name of Lionism.

Lion Leo Morrissette (2015)

Being a  Lion means that I get to demonstrate my enjoyment of helping others through different types of events. Lionism means serving the community, helping others without expecting anything in return, and being part of a close-knit group that offers diversity, camaraderie and a fun time. I feel a sense of empowerment and achievement through volunteering my time.

Lion Pat Kerr (1997)

When I joined Lions back in 1997 I had big dreams of helping my community, assisting those less fortunate and making new friends.  Well, I can say I have not been disappointed!  I feel our Lions Club has made life-changing impacts on many individuals and other organizations.  Our motto is “We Serve” and we definitely do just that.  I am SO proud to wear my Lions Club pin and have the privilege of calling myself a member of this great organization and be a part of the Williamsburg Host Lions Club family.  It is an honor to serve with these men and women!  When I walk in the Christmas parade, drive behind our trailer heading for a service project my heart swells with love and pride.  If you are looking for an organization that 100% of the monies earned and raised goes back to the community then Lions is your answer.

Lion Chet Kramer (1973)

The Lions Organizations has given me an opportunity to work with other caring and compassionate people to assist those in need within our local community. It is truly a wonderful experience, full of fun, excitement and lasting friendships.

Lion Kim Miller (2015)

I was looking for a respected organization whose members are compassionate and empathize with others from within rather than being forced to. The Lions have given me so much more than I expected. Membership makes me feel like a better human being by helping others and contributing to my community in the best way possible.

Lion Mary Lou Newman (2006)

As a Lions Member, I enjoy being able to help individuals and families in need of assistance throughout our community, especially the children. I am thankful for the many friendships and proud of the service we provide.

Lion Jeff Jacobs (1991)

Lions gives me a chance to work with youth, and that is an opportunity to affect how young people become better adults. It gives them a chance for a better future and a better world.

Lion Bruce Young (1966)

As a Lion for 52 years, I have greatly enjoyed the fellowship. But, more importantly, the opportunity to help those in need has rewarded me immensely! It’s great to be a Lion!

Lion John Dean (1998)

Being a Lion has given me the opportunity to give back to my local community and to those less fortunate.  The 20 years I have been in the club has and continues to allow me to accomplish this goal.  I look forward to many more years of service to the club and community and welcome others to join us in this worthy task.

Lion Dudley Orr (1996)

Becoming a Lion after I retired and moved to a new community allowed me to connect with other people in the community and make new friends.  It also helped me to identify the needs of the residents of the surrounding areas and provide support to those in need by appropriate service projects and programs.  Through volunteer work and community service, I learned new things and was able to develop leadership skills that helped me during the 22 years that I have been a Lion.

Lion Judy McDede (2018)

Just as a lion is king of the jungle and inspires respect from those weaker or more dependent than him … a Lions Club member must show that same fierceness in their endeavor to protect our communities … to shield and help those who are less fortunate … to be fierce yet compassionate in our efforts to make life better for those in need.

Lion Shana Lawler (2017)

I became a Lion because I was new to the area and looking to meet some people. A friend of mine was a Lion in Smithfield. He really seemed to enjoy it. I had no idea how much great work Lions do, from providing sight dogs to conducting diabetes and vision screening for local children. I have met fantastic people who inspire me. I have made many new friends. This is a great way to get involved and give back to your community.
