Our next meeting will be held at Boston Pizza, 797 Hillside Avenue, Victoria BC. Lunch may be ordered from the menu and individual bills will be provided. Normally  meetings begin at 12:10 pm and adjourn by 1:30 pm.  Visiting Lions are always welcome and advance notice to the Secretary is appreciated.

Chartered in 1969 as the Empress Lions, the club has a proud history of service to the community. In 2009 the club was the recipient of Victoria’s Outstanding Philanthropic Service Club Award on National Philanthropy day.

In 1925 Lions Clubs International accepted a challenge by Helen Keller to become “knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness” In the spirit of that challenge the Empress Lions Club founded the first Low Vision Aid Centre at the Victoria General Hospital in 1979. The centre was named in memory of the late Lion Norman Lidster, a published author who was both blind and paralysed.  One of the clubs main service activities in the 1980’s and 90’s was glaucoma screening clinics held regularly in shopping malls in the community in cooperation with volunteer ophthalmologists and ophthalmic technicians.

In 2012, the club established and now coordinates the Lions iPhone Project for the Blind, a project intended to make iPhones available to blind people who can benefit from the superior technology embodied in the device.

Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization with more than 1.4 million members in approximately 46,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas around the world.
