Waynesville Lions Club Scholarship Recipients

 

 

2013

 

Mariah Smart

Mariah ranks at the top of her class with a GPA of 4.09 and ACT score of 33.  She works at the Mary L. Cook library and she has volunteered there for the last two summer reading programs.  She has also volunteered at a home for the elderly, at a food pantry, and has helped at the Lions Club's festivals for several years.  She also performed a varity of tasks on two mission trips to Cosat Rica.  Her intrest include dance, drama, and being involved in NHS.  Mariah plans to attend Cedarville University majoring in Spanish and minoring in Bible.

 

Clara Young

This young lady has a GPA of 4.0 as well as a great ACT score.  She has maintained these grades while being very active in NHS, Student Council, National Art Honor Society, Girl Scouts, and band (Pep, Concert, and Marching).  She gives Waynesville students free music lessons, works at the food pantry, collects shoes for the needy, and has won many Girl Scout awards for her community servive projects.  Clara also has an amazing work ethic - not too many high schoolers can say that they have washed airplanes for a living.  Her plans are to attend THE Ohio State University and Major in Neuroscience.

 

Mary Beth Wilson

Mary Beth took many honors classes and yet maintained a GPA of 4.29.  She was the 2013 Homecoming Queen, works, and keeps very active in her church youth group, NHS, Quiz Team, choir, and is well known for her outstanding solos and acting skills in WHS's theatre group.  Mary Beth plans to attend Bowling Green State University majoring in Education and minoring in Spanish.

 

 

Michael Vogel

This young man is best described as a "dedicated student athlete".  He served as a student aide his Junior year and is attending college his senior year.  His intrest include football, football, and football. (plus track) He was nominated Captain by the WHS football team, as he has shown great leadership skills, great attitude, and respect of others.  Michael's plans are to attend Muskingham College and major in Nutrition and minor in History.  And play football, of course.

Courtney Coffman

Courtney excels in the classroom, but that's not all. She is community oriented and very active in 4H and her church group. She even has her own business, In fact, she's a hunter, a baker, a baby blanket maker. Courtney will be attending Miami University. Who knows, she may be Waynesville's next pediatrician.

 

Callisa Dahnke

Callisa is so dramatic, she found herself in the last musical. It was imagined that she dressed as Little Red Riding Hood to deliver her baskets of food, blankets, and smoke detectors in the local community. Callisa plays volleyball, and is very involved in Girl Scouts, S.A.D.D., her choral group, and Supportive Peers. She will be attending Cedarville College, and will be a great early childhood educator!

 

 

Alexandria Gray

Alexandria, the oldest of six children, is a very hard worker at school, in the community, and at her two jobs. She's involved in sports, volunteers teaching others her talents, was this years senior yearbook student editor, and donates much of her time to community service. Alexandria will be working towards a Masters degree in Biology and Foreign Language at Bradley University!

 

 

Matthew Hussy

Matthew is not only smart, he competed in four sports during his High School years (Football, Track, Cross Country, and Basketball), even setting a school record in Track. He has earned his way as a lifeguard and camp councelor, sometimes working seven days a week, and also umpiring baseball ! Matthew will be persuing his Electrical Engineering degree at UC.
