Englewood Lions Donate for Tornado Relief

In January 2022 an EF-1 tornado with estimated 110 mph winds tore through the Gasparilla Mobile Estates, damaging or destroying more than 20 mobile homes.  Luckily no one died but residents suffered an estimated $2 million in property damages, and few had insurance.  At a recent meeting of the Englewood Lions Club, representatives of the Gasparilla Mobile Homeowners Association (GMHA), Ted Roberts and Cindy Wenzel, spoke of the damages, the aftermath, and the on-going recovery efforts.  They spoke of the assistance received from Charlotte County citizens and organizations, particularly the county Fire Department and Emergency Services.  Mr. Roberts praised the generosity of many organizations and private citizens in donating to a recovery fund and described in detail how donations are distributed to the Estate residents in proportion to their losses.  The Lions Club then presented Mr. Roberts and Ms. Wenzel a $1000 donation for the recovery fund.

President Kathleen Lawless of the Englewood Lions Club presents a $1000 check to representatives of the Gasparilla Mobile Homeowners Association for contribution to a tornado recovery fund.  Pictured are (L – R):  GMHA Secretary Cindy Wenzel, Lion Kathleen Lawless, and GMHA Treasurer Ted Roberts.

Thank you for supporting our Pointsettia Sales this year!!

The Englewood Lions Club was chartered in 1952 in Englewood Florida, alongside beautiful Lemon Bay and the Gulf of Mexico.  Our year-round members are joined during the winter season by Lions from northern states who value our warm weather and sunshine as well as our Lions hospitality.  We are always looking for additional members who would like to work on projects for the betterment of our community.

We have meetings in our clubhouse, the Eldred Dixon Hall located at 4611 Placida Road, starting with dinner at 6:00 PM.  Guests are welcome. Visit once, you are a guest; visit twice, you are a friend; visit more, we might ask you to work on one of our projects.

Our meetings are (usually) the 2nd & 4th Tuesdays, with a catered dinner at 6pm, and a club meeting following.  Please call 941-698-7508 a few days in advance to confirm the next meeting's date and time.  Visitors and Lion guests are always welcome!
