Powhatan Lions Club

The 48th Annual Steer Roast is April 24, 2024

The club was founded in 1976 with 25 charter members and is celebrating its 48th anniversary this year.  We currently have one of the largest clubs, in our district, at over 50 members, a fact we are very proud of. The focus of the club is to serve the people of Powhatan County and organizations representing the sight and hearing impaired.

We are part of the Lions Club International, the largest civic organization in the world.  The Lions motto is We Serve! Fun, fellowship and voluntary service is what this club is about.  We encourage service minded people to serve their community without personal or financial reward.

We have three major fund raising events each year.  They are known as the Steer Roast, typically held in the spring, a Golf Tournament held in the fall and White Cane Day.  The funds raised are donated back locally. The Powhatan Lions Club is a 501c3 non-profit charitable organization.

Here are just some of the organizations and projects the Powhatan Lions have donated to:

  • Eye exams and glasses for needy individuals in Powhatan
  • Prevent Blindness Virginia-Leader Dog Program
  • Burkeville Lodge for the blind
  • Prevent Blindness Mid-Atlantic
  • Central Virginia Hearing Aid Bank
  • Powhatan High School and Blessed Sacrament Huguenot for scholarships.
  • Powhatan Rescue Squad
  • Powhatan YMCA
  • Virginia Voice
  • Powhatan Volunteer Fire Department
  • Powhatan Christmas Mother

The club meets on the 1st & 4th Wednesdays on the month at the County Seat Restaurant located the Curthouse area of Powhatan County. The meeting starts at 6:30PM.

Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization with more than 1.4 million members in approximately 46,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas around the world.
