Origin and Organization

We were sponsored by the Quarryville Lions Club of Quarryville Pennsylvania and received Our Charter bearing the signature of Melvin Jones, from The International Association of Lions Clubs on June 13, 1932.

We were chartered as "The Lions Club of Rising Sun", and our nineteen Charter Members were: George Alger, Clarence W. Ashby, Arther J. Dinsmore, Harry M. Dinsmore, Dr. Richard C. Dodson, Willis L. Ely, Cecil E. Ewing, Evans E. Ewing, John C. Hindman, Francis M. Kennard, Clifford E. Marker, David T. Reed, Norris J. Reynolds, Thomas J. Riale, Asher Roberson, J. Paul Slaybaugh, Lawson C. Tosh, J. Earl Tyson and Marlin U. Zimmerman.

We were incorporated within the State of Maryland, USA, on September 23, 2008 as "The Lions Club of Rising Sun, Inc".

We are known colloquially as "the Rising Sun Lions Club" or simply as "Rising Sun Lions". The Lions Club of Rising Sun (EIN#52-0631841) is registered as a Non-Profit 501(c)(4) Social Welfare Organization with the United States Internal Revenue Service, and donations to the Club are NOT tax deductible. However, The Rising Sun Lions Club Foundation (EIN#85-4218129) formed 0n October 19, 2020, is registered as a Non-Profit 501(c)(3) Foundation with the United States Internal Revenue Service, and donations to the Foundation ARE tax deductible.

We have been the sponsor of the Perryville MD Lions Club (April 28, 1944), the Port Deposit MD Lions Club (February 17, 1947), the North East MD Lions Club (March 27, 1947), and the Conowingo MD Lions Club (January 1, 2000).

We are members of Lions District 22B which is comprised of the Lions in the nine counties on the Eastern Shore of Maryland; and we are members of Multiple District 22 , which is comprised of all of the Lions in Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia.

We are also members of Lions Clubs International, which is the world's largest service organization represented by a network of more than One Million Three Hundred Fifty Thousand men and women in over 200 countries and geographic areas, who work together to answer the needs that challenge communities around the world.

To empower volunteers, to serve our communities, to meet humanitarian needs, and to encourage peace and promote international understanding through our Lions Clubs.

The "Rising Sun Lions Club FOUNDATION, Inc." is registered as a Non-Profit, 501(c)(3) Public Charity, with the Internal Revenue Service.

Contributions or gifts to The Rising Sun Lions Club FOUNDATION, Inc. ARE Tax Deductible by the Donor for Federal Income Tax purposes to the extent permitted by law.

The "Lions Club of Rising Sun, Inc." is registered as a Non-Profit, 501(c)(4) Social Welfare Organization, with the Internal Revenue Service; and contributions and/or gifts to The Lions Club of Rising Sun, Inc. ARE NOT Tax Deductible by the Donor, for Federal Income Tax purposes.

Use of Monetary Receipts Policy

Our Lions Club does not deduct any administration fees nor do we allow any funds received from the public to inure to the benefit of The Lions Club of Rising Sun or to any officer, director or member thereof. (Ref: Club Constitution & Bylaws; Article XI, Section 1, Page 11)

100% of all proceeds in excess of the costs of our fundraisers and 100% of all donations received from the public are used to benefit worthwhile services, charities and community and youth projects.

The administration and operational costs of our Lions Club are 100% funded by our Member Lions through membership dues and fees.

2015-16 District 22B Governor's Awards

Our Lions Club received the following District 22B Governor's awards at the May 16-19, 2016 Multiple District 22 Convention in Hagerstown, MD: a Five Star Club Award, a 100% Secretary Award, a First Place Visitation Award, a First Place Outstanding Club Website Award, a Second Place Membership Recruitment Award, and a Second Place Outstanding Vision Programming Award.

The awards were delivered on June 16, 2016 by PDG Lion Oakley Sumpter and presented by Lion Colleen Chamberlain, both of whom were members of the Perryville Lions Club.

Our Coffee Pot Mascot

(Constructed in 1937)

The Coffee Pot represents our commitment to "Service and Charity", and was conceived by one of our now deceased members, Lion Bill McNamee, in early 1937. It was built by Howard Wilson (Bill’s Uncle) with help from Bill, Charlie Ritchie, Cliff Marker and other members and supporters of our Club in what was then the Wilson & McNamee Garage on the east side of Buckley Avenue, at the intersection with West Main Street in Rising Sun Maryland.

It was originally used as a portable Hot Dog and Coffee vending booth in the period following the Great Depression, and has undergone several renovations since originally constructed. Because it is unique, we have adopted it as a Club mascot, and while we no longer use it for food vending, we do tow it in parades and display it at various events throughout the local area to promote awareness of our Lions Club and to generate public interest and support for the charitable work that we do.

Lion William (Bill) McNamee was responsible for the Coffee Pot concept and design		Howard Wilson (R) was the primary builder of the Coffee Pot, with help from Charlie Ritchie (C), Cliff Marker (L) and probably other unnamed individuals

How to Prepare for and Participate in

VIRTUAL MEETINGS

(Using FreeConferenceCall.com as the Service Platform)

Introduction to Virtual Meetings:

Virtual Audio Meetings can be accessed by anyone. Smart Phones can access a meeting by using internet or Dial-Up connections; and Computers having a headset, or speakers and a microphone, can access a meeting by using Internet connections. However, landline phones (having toll free long distance service) and "dumb" mobile phones can only access a meeting by using a Dial-Up connection.

Virtual Video Meetings can be accessed through "Internet" Connections by Smart Phones or Computers that have cameras. Smart Phones can access the Internet using either their phone provider's DATA service or like Computers, they can access the Internet through an internet Service Provider.

There are actually five different ways to join a Free Conference Call (FCC) Virtual Meeting. To learn about each of them, read the: "Five Ways to Join a Virtual Meeting".

Easy to follow preparation instructions are provided for our members, and we are asking each of you to Register and Prepare your devices by following steps #1 through #3 below; however, if you don't intend to host a (Club, Board, Committee or Other) meeting, or if you don't want to be able to see who is attending a meeting, or if you don't want to have the ability to "privately chat" with any of the other members in attendance, you can skip registration and device preparation and go directly to step #4, where you can simply learn How to Participate in Virtual Meetings, without installing Computer Software or Smart Phone APPS, or while using unpreparable devices such as your landline phone or "dumb" mobile phone.

Please be aware that Registered members using Prepared devices will be able to utilize ALL of the Free Conference Call features; AND they will be easily identifiable both when they join and throughout a meeting. This contrasts with Unregistered members using Unprepared devices who will NOT be able to utilize ALL the features of Free Conference Call; AND who will require special attention to identify them every time they join a meeting. This is necessary to record attendance and to insure that only Club Members or Invited Guests are admitted and allowed to remain during the meeting.

Unregistered attendees present a Privacy and Security Risk because they can only be identified by a phone number. Since phone numbers can be "spoofed" by others, or designated as "private or unpublished" by their owners, these participants may not be identifiable during a meeting, or they may only be identifiable by the sound of their voice, when or if they speak. As a result, Anonymous and Silent Attendees WILL be disconnected whenever the Host is unable to identify them.

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS

How to PREPARE for Virtual Meetings:

#1: CLICK HERE to open your FREE account at Free Conference Call.com. Do this on your computer prior to the meeting date. When you make this selection, you will be asked to register your Email address and to establish your password.

NOTE: Perform this step to achieve "Full Functionality". FreeConferenceCall Accounts need to be created only once on each device. You will use the same account to participate in all of our future Virtual meetings or when you Host your own Virtual meetings.

#2: To use your Computer instead of a phone: For Virtual Audio meetings, your computer needs to have a functioning Internet Connection, and a headset or a Microphone and Speakers; for Virtual Video meetings, a Camera is also needed. Refer to the Overview and Participant Reference Guide for other system requirements.

If your Computer meets the preceding requirements, then Select, Download and Install the software needed on your computer; Select the download that corresponds to your computer's operating system. The options are: MAC (OSX 10.7 and higher), Windows (7 and higher), and Linux.

#3: To use an Android Phone instead of your computer: Prepare your Android phone by going to the "Google Play Store" and downloading and installing the FREE Android "Free Conference Call" APP;

-OR- To use an IPhone instead of your computer: Prepare your IPhone by going to the "Apple App Store" and downloading and installing the FREE IPhone "Free Conference Call" APP.

How to PARTICIPATE in Virtual Meetings:

#4: Review the Overview and Participant Reference Guide in order to expand your knowledge and understanding.

#5: Prior to the meeting, an Invitation Email will be sent to you by the Meeting HOST, the Club President or the Club Secretary. It will contain all of the CONFIDENTIAL Information that you will need to JOIN the Meeting. Please DO NOT republish or share this information with anyone who is not a member of your Lions Club.

#6: Join the Meeting approximately 5 to 10 minutes prior to the meeting's start time. Use the information provided in the invitation Email or you can simply select a link embedded within the Invitation Email.
