Club Projects

Towcester & District Lions Club has two main projects as part of their Community Service work. The first being the Lions Life Line bottle scheme details of which are given below. The second is to support the Lions international programme to eradicate preventable blindness. We collect spectacles from local medical centres and send them to a central location where they are cleaned, sorted and forwarded to the third world. Annually we make a donation to fund a Lions Eye Camp in remote third world areas where a team of doctors treat the villagers who have sight problems and in many case restore their sight for very little cost.

Lions Life Line Bottle Scheme is completely free and voluntary for anyone living at home, who might be reassured to know that essential information is readily available to the emergency services, should they suffer an accident or sudden illness.  Our Club distributes the bottles (see photo gallery for sample) to various organisations, medical centres and individuals.

The 'emergency information' pack provides a form to complete with information such as personal details, next of kin, medication being taken, doctors name and any other relevant information (e.g. animals to be cared for). The form is then put into the container provided and placed into the door of your fridge. Two stickers are provided, one for the fridge door and the other for the inside of your front door.

All the emergency services are aware of the Lions Life Line Bottle Scheme and in the event of an incident will have instant access to this vital, and sometimes life saving information. Similar schemes are known as Data Link and Message in a Bottle (MAB) in some other parts of the UK

The kits are absolutely free with all the costs being met by the nine participating Northamptonshire Lions clubs and are available from organisations such as Help the Aged, Northamptonshire Association for the Blind, Diabetes UK, Chemists, Medical Centres and Libraries.
